USA Rice Federation Targets Foodservice in Mexico

Foodservice professionals taste U.S. rice dishes in Mexico City.
|
MEXICO CITY -- USA Rice Federation recently promoted U.S. rice at two of Mexico's key foodservice shows. Training sessions and demonstrations were held at Expohotel Cancun, Mexico's premier foodservice show which attracts prominent industry personnel from Mexico and the Caribbean. In Mexico City, USA Rice conducted rice seminars and cooking demonstrations at Expo-Restaurantes, a foodservice event for the growing Mexican restaurant trade.
Show organizers estimated that there were more than 2,000 booth visitors at each event. USA Rice participates in these foodservice events to educate attendees about the benefits of U.S.-grown rice.
The use of rice is relatively low in Mexico's expanding foodservice sector. Through these activities, USA Rice encourages restaurant owners and chefs to include more rice in their menus to increase profits while offering wholesome food to their clients. In 2011, U.S. exports of parboiled rice (commonly used in restaurants) increased 50 percent from the previous year.
