Louisiana Farm Bureau Members Receive Rice Industry Updates

NEW ORLEANS -- The Rice Advisory Committee of the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation (LAFBF) met in conjunction with the 90th annual LAFBF convention on Saturday. Growers from across the state received information on proposed farm policy, the market outlook and the uncertainty of the federal budget.
USA Rice Federation VP for government affairs Reece Langley reviewed the recently passed Agriculture Reform, Food and Jobs Act, the Senate version of the 2012 Farm Bill. Langley summarized aspects of the Senate legislation that would impact rice growers and outlined USA Rice's efforts with the House Agriculture Committee to develop farm policy that provides producers with policy options tailored to their risk management needs.
Dr. Mike Salassi, Louisiana State University AgCenter economist, presented an economic analysis of the Senate Farm Bill and a market outlook for rice.
