Rice Leadership Class Session Underway

LITTLE ROCK, AR -- The second session for the 2012 Rice Leadership Development Class is underway this week. Today through Friday the class is in Arkansas for a study session on the state's rice farming practices and processing industry. The week began in Chicago with an educational visit to the CME Group and a tour of the trading floor. On Tuesday, the class was at John Deere's world headquarters in Moline, IL, for meetings with company executives and a tour of the combine factory.
Five rice producers and two industry representatives are in the leadership class. They are producers: Brian Barrett, Arbuckle, CA; Timothy Gertson, Lissie, Texas; Clint Roth, Stuttgart, AR; Noble Guedon, Natchez, MS; Rance Daniels, Hornersville, MO; and industry representatives Dr. Natalie Hummel, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, LA, and Brice Lauppe, Farmers' Rice Cooperative, Roseville, CA.

| CCC Rough Rice Prices Increase |
WASHINGTON -- The Department of Agriculture's Commodity Credit Corporation today announced the following prevailing world market prices of milled and rough rice, adjusted for U.S. milling yields and location, and the resulting marketing loan-gain (MLG) and loan deficiency payment (LDP) rates applicable to the 2011 crop, which became effective today at 7:00 a.m., Eastern Time (ET). Rough rice prices increased $0.22 per cwt for long-grain and $o.23 per cwt for medium/short-grain.
