| USA Rice Federation Announces Rice Salad Recipe Contest for Consumers |
 USA Rice Federation and California Rice Commission (CRC) launched today the Sizzlin' Summer Rice Salad Contest to stimulate interest in rice as a summer menu ingredient. Consumers will submit original salad recipes using U.S.-grown medium-grain rice that contain six ingredients and can be prepared in 30 minutes. The top three recipes will receive American Express gift cards, Aroma rice cookers and be published on the USA Rice and CRC websites.
USA Rice will publicize the contest through social media outlets including Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. An e-newsletter was distributed to 5,000 rice enthusiasts to generate entries.
The contest encourages consumers to cook with rice throughout the summer and meets consumer desire for healthy, light, easy-to-prepare meals.

| Crop Progress: Ninety-Four Percent of the Rice Crop Emerged |
WASHINGTON -- Ninety-four percent of the rice crop has emerged, ahead of the five-year average of 80 percent, according to today's U.S. Department of Agriculture Crop Progress Report. Sixty-five percent of the rice crop is reported in good-to-excellent condition.
