| FECARROZ Meeting Results in Collaborative Approach to Resolving Quality Issues |
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica -- U.S. government officials, rice industry members, USA Rice Federation and US Rice Producers Association staff met last week with representatives of the Federation of the Central American Rice Industry (FECARROZ) to discuss concerns associated with U.S. paddy rice shipments to Central America. The participants agreed to establish a working group of eight members, four from each side to address quality concerns. The U.S. rice industry representatives will include The Rice Company, ADM Rice, Bunge and Russell Marine. FECARROZ will be represented by one producer and three millers from Central America.
The working group is expected to meet in Houston during the FECARROZ Board meetings, December 14-16, to evaluate proposed changes and improvements to trade.
FECARROZ requested regular updates on developments emanating from USA Rice Federation's Marketability and Competitiveness Task Force, since some of the issues being addressed could directly affect Central American millers. The overall outcome of the meeting was viewed as productive and quite positive by the U.S. attendees.

| USA Rice Kicks Off Rice "Market Storms" |
 |
|
USA Rice brand ambassadors talk to consumers about the product.
|
ACCRA, Ghana -- USA Rice Federation recently began promoting U.S.-grown rice in several "market storms" - intense, promotional open markets for rice.
Trained brand ambassadors educate rice retailers and consumers on the wholesomeness, high quality and nutritional values of U.S. rice. Retailers are also encouraged to stock U.S. rice.
Partnering with Jazz Jasmine Rice, USA Rice distributes small sample packs of rice to retailers and consumers. The feedback elicited from the markets notes that Jazz Jasmine is fresher and has a better taste and aroma than other varieties.
Yaw Agyare, managing director of Supreme Rice, the company that imports the Jazz brand, is very excited about the activity and has committed to extend the market storms to other cities.
Ten market storms will be conducted in Accra during this two-week campaign.
